Sales reports for print books and ebooks sold through retailers are available in the REPORT section of your IngramSpark account: Compensation earned for print books and ebooks sold, Transactions, invoices, billing, and pre-orders.
At IngramSpark, we use the term “compensation” or "publisher compensation" instead of "royalties" when referring to payments made to the author/publisher for distribution sales of their books. IngramSpark is a publishing platform and pays compensation for books sold through Ingram’s global distribution network. Publishers pay authors “royalties” for books sold.
The following reports are available to you through the “Reports” tab on your IngramSpark account:
Compensation - How it's Calculated
Compensation - Mass-Produced Titles
Compensation - Payment Schedule
Compensation - Publisher Compensation Terms

When are print sales reported?
On your IngramSpark account, you will receive invoices/charges for services such as title setup, revisions, orders, etc. To review invoices on your account, you will run an Invoice Report.
When running this report, you will be asked for different filter criteria.
- Operating Unit – This specifies from what country/currency your invoices were charged. For example, if a title setup was paid for in US Dollars, you would select LS US as the Operating Unit. If a publisher order was printed in the UK and paid for in Euros, you would select LS UK – Euros.
- Date Range or Period – Here you can select a specific date range (01/01/2018 to 01/31/2018) or a period (January 2018).
*If a date range is greater than 100 days, you will need to select "Email Delivery as file attachment" instead of using the Screen Display option. Also, date ranges cannot exceed 366 days. If you would like to see a report for a longer date range, you will need to run multiple reports.
- Invoice Number – If there is a specific invoice you are searching for and you already know the invoice number, you may include it here.
- Credit Card Reference Number - If you know the credit card reference number, you may include it here.
- Output Format – You are able to review the Invoice Report on your screen, or you may choose an email delivery option. Reports are sent as a PDF document with email delivery.
You may use the Billing Statement Report if you would like to review credit card charges by closed accounting months.

There is an Ebook Sales Models Summary page in the PDF version of the Ebook Sales Report. The totals on this page are identical to the Retail Summary page, but instead of listing the various retailers for each sale, this new page will summarize the sales by the Ebook Sales Model (i.e. Pay_Per_Use, Singe_User, etc.) used. Below is a screenshot from this new summary statement:
NOTE: If there were no sales, a report will not be produced.
You will be able to set a publication date and an on-sale date for an ebook, however, our ebook retail partners only recognize the publication date. If the ebook retail partners pick up the ebook, they will accept preorders for the ebook if the publication day is set in the future.
The Print Sales Report provides information regarding sales for your print book through our distribution channels. Print sales are reported on your publisher's compensation report when they are shipped from our print facility.
You can run a print sales report to view the sales of all your books or specific books. This report will only show books sold through the global distribution network Ingram offers.
Below is an image of what the report looks like. Numbered items are explained below the image.
1) DATE RANGE or PERIOD
You can select a specific DATE RANGE (04/01/2018 to 12/31/2018) or a PERIOD (month and year) for the report.
If you enter dates in the DATE RANGE fields that are more than 100 days, you will need to select "Email Delivery as file attachment" instead of using the Screen Display option.
You can enter the dates for a full year, but you won’t be able to exceed 365 days. If you would like a report for a time period of more than 365 days, you will need to run multiple reports.
Selecting the PERIOD option for a sales report, for a specific month and year, will match the publisher's compensation payment for that month of sales. If using this option, the dates in the DATE RANGE field should be deleted.
2) OPERATING UNIT and CURRENCY– This specifies the country where the book was printed, and the currency used for that market. For example, if someone in Australia purchased your book, you would select LS AU as the Operating Unit and AU Dollars as the Currency. If viewing the sales online, only one Operating Unit and one Currency can be selected.
3) COMPENSATION TYPE - Select POD to view sales of your book that were printed at one of our facilities and shipped to a distribution partner.
Select Global Connect/Espresso to view sales from our Global Connect Program or sales for books printed through the Espresso Book Machine. Select LS US as the operating unit and US Dollars as the currency. If viewing the sales online, only one Compensation Type can be selected
4) OPTIONAL FILTER CRITERIA– You can enter ISBNs, titles, or an author name if you would like a more specific report. If you don’t enter any information in these fields the report will return sales for all print titles for the Period or Date Range selected.
5) OUTPUT FORMAT– Screen Display and Email Delivery are the 2 options for how you want to view the report. Select Screen Display to view the report online. If you select Email Delivery, we recommend selecting Adobe PDF as the attachment type.
6) Enter the EMAIL ADDRESS twice, click SUBMIT and the report will be emailed.

For help understanding how your compensation payments are calculated, see Calculating Your Publisher Compensation
Distribution sales for print books are recorded on the Print Sales report when print books are shipped from our print facility to the distribution partner and ebook sales are recorded on the Ebook Sales report the month following the download of the ebook after it's delivered to one of our retail partners.
Payments for these sales are noted on the Publisher Compensation Report after you receive payment for these sales; however, certain purchases will not be reflected in these reports:
- Books purchased as ‘used’ or from a third party, for example, would not appear in your report as a ‘sale’ since the seller is already in possession of a copy of the title, and we would not be printing a book to fulfill the order for that title. At some point, you were already paid for the sale of that book.
- If your title is listed with another printer or distributor, books printed and/or sold through these sources will not be reflected in your publisher's compensation report.
Someone may say they purchased your book, from Amazon for an example, but you don't see the sale on your Print Sales report. Sometimes Amazon or other retailers will order additional copies and have stock on hand that they fulfill orders from. The sale of the book would appear on prior Print Sales reporting and you may have already received payment for those sales.
Recently, there have been changes in the way booksellers are ordering books. Many online retailers who sell books will no longer purchase books as non-returnable. Having a book available as non-returnable can affect the availability messaging on websites. You as the publisher can decide if you want to give bookstores, retailers, and libraries the option of returning unsold books.
Historically, publishers grant sellers the right to return unwanted and/or overstocked copies of books. These books are considered “returnable”. When a bookseller returns an unsold book back to their supplier, where they purchased the book, they expect to be reimbursed for their purchase price.
The wholesaler or distributor returns the books back to us and they expect to be reimbursed the wholesale price of the book. If you change the returns option for your book from returnable to non-returnable or non-returnable to returnable, it can have a negative impact on your compensation earnings.
You may receive an invoice or see that returns were deducted from your publisher's compensation report. For more information on returns, please click here.
If a publisher decides to close their IngramSpark account and they have titles in Ingram's global distribution network listed as returnable bookstores and retailers, etc, have 180 days to return any unsold product. The publisher will continue to receive compensation payments with returns deducted in the month they were received. At the end of the 180 day return period, if the publisher is in a negative compensation balance they will be expected to reimburse Ingram for that amount.
If Ingram closes the publisher's account, publisher compensation may be held until the end of the 180 day return period after all returns are processed.
Per IngramSpark Global Agreement, page 7, 1B) Title Removal. Any (MPC) Mass-Produced Title may be removed from distribution at Lightning Source’s sole discretion.
Lightning Source also reserves the right to reject new MPC Titles, and to immediately remove or
suspend any Title where the same or similar Mass-Produced Content is available through another third
party, or if any Metadata includes misleading or improper Title information.
“Mass Produced Content” means any creative works and materials that are: (1) mass-produced (and not subject to copyright protection), (2) in the public domain; (3) not protected by intellectual property laws, such as copyright, trademark, or patent laws; (4) not owned by any individual; or (5) able to be used by anyone without obtaining any permission, regardless of ISBN or title, or whether the work is a reproduction, a compilation, or any limited portion thereof. Mass Produced Content includes, without limitation, content that was once protected under copyright laws, scratch pads, notepads, and workbooks.
