The busy holiday book selling season will be here soon! If you are wanting your new book to be available for sale in time for the gift book buying season, here are some things to consider, along with links to articles containing additional information that can help you determine the right choices for you and your book.
Book buyers are already ordering books for the holidays. If you intend to purchase an annotation ad in one of the 3 Advance catalogs published by Ingram and used by book buyers around the world, to decide which books they will order, please be aware of the delivery date for the December issues, shown below.
Advance- December issue delivers in October
Children's Advance- November/December issue delivers in September
Christian Advance- November/December issue delivers in October
Your book should have all revisions completed, the eproof approved (preferably a printed copy reviewed too) and distribution services enabled/added by the end of September at the latest, so that it is available for sale through Ingram in October, to help ensure no sales are missed. We are expecting the 4th quarter of 2019 to be a busy one and it takes much longer for the metadata/book information to be picked up by our distribution and retail partners and added to their websites, due to all the metadata feeds they are receiving during that time.
You can set the publication date as the same date you set up the book or set it as October 1 if you prefer. The on-sale date is optional and is not recognized by all online retailers and has sometimes caused problems with the availability messaging on some websites.
Pricing is also important to consider for your book, especially the wholesale discount and returns option you decide to offer.
