Book Fairs

  • Book Services

We are a small publisher in Tucson AZ.  Each year we get a booth at the Tucson Festival of Books.  As a print on demand publisher the festival fee has always been covered by the income from new authors that find us at the festival.  Last year we also sold enough books to cover the booth fee.  This year we are doubling the space to support three authors signing at the same time.

I don't know about the two fairs you are asking about, but the cost for an author with a single book usually will not cover the cost of exhibit space unless you can get press coverage (review) to get the traffic.  Our experience with individual authors showing their book in the common author area also requires press coverage or a large enough social media following to get the readers/fans.  You can't count on the fair to get the traffic.

James, I once paid for my book to be displayed at Book Expo because my book had won awards. I happened to be at Book Expo and one of the companies wasn't displaying the book I'd shipped them for display. I was able to get my money back, thankfully. But it made me skittish about ever displaying my book again.

I did have a book displayed by another company. That didn't net anything for me. I have better sales using Amazon ads, website sales, postcard mailings, etc...
