Q: I want to set up a print title and an ebook together. Can I upload the PDFs for the interior and cover of my print book into the book-building tool to create an ebook?
You can set up a print title and ebook together and use the book-building tool to create the ebook, but, you can't upload a PDF for the interior. You will need to upload the interior file as a word document for the print book and ebook. You can upload the PDF cover file into the book-building tool and it will create the cover for the print book and it will create a jpg image for the ebook.
Q: Can I upload a PDF?
The IngramSpark book-building tool can only accept JPGs and PNGs for image files and Word documents (.docx) for the interior copy.
Q: What is the recommended Image Resolution and Image Color Mode?
Images should be high-resolution at 300 PPI (pixels/inch). Traditionally, the recommended color mode for print-ready files is CMYK. However, due to the nature of using an online tool, RGB images are acceptable. Please be aware that print-ready files will be converted to CMYK. The printed color may appear differently than how the color appears on your computer monitor. This is a common occurrence when using online tools.
Q: How do I prepare my interior Word document before uploading it?
- Insert Page Breaks at the end of each chapter/section (Insert/Page Break)
- Apply the style Heading 1 to all chapter/section headers (Open Styles Pane; highlight chapter/section with cursor; apply Heading 1 style)
The IngramSpark book-building tool will automatically split your document into editable chapters/sections based on page breaks and will create the chapter/section titles based on the Heading 1 style.
Q: Should I format my interior Word document before uploading it?
The layout selected under the Choose Layout button will determine the fonts and overall design of your interior pages. Minimal paragraph formatting should be done within Word prior to uploading your content into the book-building tool. However, common formatting options are available in the IngramSpark book-building tool.
The IngramSpark book-building tool will automatically create your Full Title Page, Half Title Page, and Table of Contents.
Q: Should I include a Table of Contents in my interior Word document?
We do not recommend including the Table of Contents in your Word document. The book-building tool will auto-create a Table of Contents based on your chapters/sections. A toggle switch is available within the editor to remove sections that you wish to include in or remove from the Table of Contents.
Q: Does the paper-size of my Word document need to match the trim size chosen within the IngramSpark book-building tool?
The paper size of your Word document does not affect the output of your files created within the IngramSpark book-building tool.
Q: Can I choose my own fonts?
The layout selected under the Choose Layout button will determine the fonts and overall design of your interior pages.
